We had quite the snowstorm on Saturday -

Good Moorning everyone!

Its time again for The view from the Moo!

It finally happened - we got SNOW!!!

We've been enjoying it because it wont last long, the temps

are rising again, BUT, Jack ad I are maki.....

"HA-WOO! HI THERE EVERYBODY!"

Jack, woo interrupted me. I'm trying to post, now go away.

"Nope, not this time, Moo...cause we have a surprise for WOO!"

Hi Everyone, Jack here!

Today is a special day at our house, cause its

Moo's 2nd Gotch Day AnniMoosery!

Yup, two years ago today, Mom & Dad took me fur a drive and I met a spunky feisty little Sibette named Moo who came home with us that night and never left! Even thought I complain sometimes about her dragging me around by the neck, throwing me down, biting my legs, sitting on me, taking my chew toys, grabbing my treats, pushing me out of my bed, and hogging all the attention, well, I wouldn't trade her for all the kibble in the world! She's my sisfur!

Moo is one of the happiest, most playful pups

we've ever met, and we love her smile.

Mom collected some of the best of Moo's happy faces and put

them together in an album to celebrate her 2nd AnniMoosery.

We are Grand Prize Winners!

Ha-woo! we had wonderful news yesterday!

We are the Grand Prize Winners

of Miss Kylie's 25 Days of Christmas contest!

The Grand Prize of $125.00 will be donated in our name

to the rescue/shelter of our choice!

We know there are many worthy causes, but our hearts went out

to this little girl when we read her story a while ago.

We are so very grateful to send this to Reatta, c/o Adopt-A-Husky

Reatta

Please read her story to see what a special girl she is.

Extensive surgery for her injuries required a specialist,

so her medical bills are a whopping $6000.00.

She is in the loving foster care of Adopt-A-Husky.

We pray her recovery continues to go well and she will find her very own fur-ever home one day soon! May she never ever know anything but love and kindness from now on!

We'll let mom fill you in on her own reasons why Reatta pulls on her heart strings:

My mother's name was Rita, (I assume that is how Reatta's name is pronounced, too), and we lived in IL (where Reatta was rescued) when we got our first husky, Star. We supported Adopt-A-Husky for years when we lived in OH, and met many wonderful people at their Husky Hikes. They are real angels to our Siberian friend in need!

We woo our thanks to Kylie, Jimmy, & their mom Ali

for such a wonderful Grand Prize!

Good day everyone, time again for the View from the Moo!

It was a busy weekend here, at least for the bipeds.

They left us to our own devices while they went

about shopping & woozers, did we have a

hot-diggity-dog good time!

Yee-haw!

Kickin' up our Siberfloof!

We had fun! Mom & dad moved furniture around

& cleaned the floors & woodwork & windows & stuff.

THEN

some guys in a big truck came & stole our couches!

Yup, they carried them right outta the house!

Ha-roo??

OK, they put some new ones in their place.

We were't all that impressed but mom & dad seem to be.

They spent the evening lounging on the new stuff

saying "how comfy" it was. Oh, and also things like

"Paws off! No chewing!"

and stuff like that.*

We got extra treats, because we were

such extra good huskies thru it all.

So, in my view it all worked out ok.

Scenic Sunday

Mom wanted to get some "scenic" shots, so she took us

for a walk at Swan Lake (that's what Jack calls it).

We're both actually in this shot,

but all woo can see of Jack is a bit of muzzle and a paw-

wanna see what we were looking at?

The swans of Swan Lake!

These guys are BIG. All the other ducks move out

of their way when they come swimming up!

Mom says she'll keep checking on them in hopes they

might have a family this spring.

...and here's the reason mom came to take pictures.

She said she thinks it looks like Fairy Gardens....

It did look nice & soft - all sparkly in the morning light,

we touched it furry lightly...

...but it was still more interesting to watch the swans.

Ha-woo furiends!

I had all but given up on mom getting my View from the Moo up this week! She had some kind of deadline today, (although I think it would be much more fun to meet a lifeline)

I thought I'd post a few more pics from our beach adventure for woo to enjoy:

We walked on the stone pier.

It requires some careful stepping to avoid the big cracks!

On the rocky beach, we found remnants of an ancient civilization!

It must have been washed away by the waves,

we had to high-tail it not to get soaked ourselves!

We hit the high ground again, looking down to see

what the other side of the beach was like.

"Nothin but rocks."

We checked them out for interesting sniffs.

Ahhhhh! The sweet smell of seaweed, fish, & crabs!

Woo know what's funny about salt air?

It can make woo really tired after a while.

"All this salt air is making me tired..."

....and so we headed home. Those sniffs kept our brains busy all weekend!

Mom took us to the ocean yesterday! It was a perfect day outside- in the 50's, sunny, not too windy... She loves this photo except that its horribly out of focus if woo look at it big, but still nice at a distance!

But she was excited when she saw these next 2 -

she says these are "Keepers!"

It must have been the beawootiful light from this seaside sunset

that made all the difference.

Is it morning already?

We are partied-out pups!

Ha-roo roo! Just kidding, mom took that back when it was too hot to move, she said it looks like we were up too late partying too hard. Whatever...

Our New Year's Day windmill walk with mom...she made us wait in the car while she took this shot - she said we would "spook" the birds if she got us out. I'm not sure what she meant, I didn't see any ghosts. But the birdies all flew away when we hopped out of the car, so maybe they saw some ghosts.

Our pals the Mallards greeted us - their pond ice melted and they

were having a ball swimming around.

Wednesday Windmill Woos

We have a tradition in our house to take our humans for a walk on holiday mornings. So, Christmas morning, we took our peeps with us to the windmill park.

First thing we did was drag dad over to meet the geese!

Their little pond was half-frozen, but they didn't seem to mind.

They honked their greetings and seemed glad to see us.

But right away, mom noticed something was "off" about the windmill..... it looked a little different than usual.

Yup, sure enough, it was facing a different direction! Its always faced towards the parking lot - but this time, it was facing the open field to the south! Mom & dad figured out that the entire top turns. That makes sense, cause you would get more power out of it if you adjust it to face into the wind!

We walked to the side for a picture. Mom noticed the shudders were open on the window -

Since we had dad with us & he's furry tall, he was able to take pictures thru

the window and we got our first glimpse inside...

Pretty cool, huh?

Mom took an interesting shot looking through the garden gate arbor...

...and we got our picture with dad although Moo was

getting bored & wanted to go explore by this time....

It was furry peaceful and quiet, and we enjoyed having dad along. We even gave him a treat when we got home fur being such a good dad!

Monday's View from the Moo: the day after

Good Moo-rning everyone!

Hope all of woo had a wonderful weekend!

Woo don't mind if I chew whole I post, do woo?

I just can't put this great elk antler down!

Santa paws left us lots of treats, and we even got to take Dad on a walk to the windmill! (But we'll save those pics till later this week.) The coolest part of our day was that Santa sent us snow flakes! They didn't stick around very long, but it was nice to have snow on Christmas Day!

After our walkies, we opened our pressies and Dad handed out treats...

(there were tasty all-natural Z-Bones our boy in Ohio sent us!)

...and check this out! Also from our boy...

roast beef & chicken flavor popcorn for pups!

Mom says we'll save these for"movie night".

Mom handed out two new cool elk antlers to chew on-

plus treats from our Santa visit!

I chomped mine down on the spot - but Jack took his hoard outside

to admire it for a while before eating...

that's one of the big differences between us- he plays with his food!

While mom fixed turkey dinner, we chomped on the raw turkey neck - yum-yum-yummy! Our boys called to say Merry Christmas, which put big smiles on our mom & dad. It was pretty low-key, just us & our peeps, but woo know what? A wonderful holiday doesn't depend on how many presents we get, or how many people are there, just on how much love we share. We had a great holiday!

BTW.... there is a contest at the Agway store where we met Santa -

the winner gets a gift certificate plus $75.00 donated in their name to

the shelter of their choice - if woo vote fur us, we'd appreciate it!

Winter Solstice

Today is the official Winter Solstice, (even though we were sure it was yesterday) and we thought we'd show woo a Solstice mystery right here in Newport RI!

This is the Newport Mystery Tower! No one knows fur sure who built it or why, and speculation ranges from its being built by Benedict Arnold to having been built by Norwegians(or other Pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contacts) wa-a-a-ay before Columbus set foot here, much less the Pilgrims!

They say that on the Solstice, the sun comes in thru the narrow slots and hits a keystone in the arch on the inside of the tower.
Every year Mom says she's going to go there and watch to see if its true.... and every year she doesn't get there on time. but here's a nice pic the Boy took last Dec. when he was visiting. mom added an arrow pointing to the keystone. Ahhhh..... snow!!!

Doesn't look like we'll get any snow this year, its in the upper 50's today. Hope Santa's sleigh has wheels, too!

The View from the Moo: Morning Moo

Good Mo-rning everyone! I'm not much of a morning Moo today, but I'll try to get it together since there's a lot to woo about...

This is me in my morning spot - that special place in the hallway

where the light comes in from the bay window -

makes fur a nice & cozy last 40 winks.

To address a couple comments from yesterdays post from Jack, his "lobster" is indeed a real local lobster from right here in our bay. Mom & Dad ate it and one of its friends, but Mom said it was "so pretty" she had to take pictures first. Geesh, who takes pictures of their food? (Must be a human thing) BTW- she said it was delicious...and it was, we got a few tastes too.

Dad was busy doing guy things with Mr. Saw & Mr. Adrill and Mom was decorating trees. (It's an odd human ritual this time of year) Here's a couple pics of our Memorial Dogwood in the front yard. Isn't it pretty in the morning light? Little Hoopsie evergreen got wrapped in lights, but no pic of that yet.

And inside, instead of the usual big fake tree, she used the two little fake trees (more weird human rituals). But we heartily agree with her choice of ornaments - these trees are Siberific!

Jack is outside decorating too. He's arranging the chunks of ice from

our water bowl. No snow in the forecast, so this will have to do!

Monday's View from the Moo: Windmill Walk

Ha-woo everybody!

Time fur this week's View from the Moo! Here's a recap of our Sunday walk at the windmill.

First we pulled mom over to the pond so we could see what our friends

the Quackers were up to. I think they were glad to see us again.

Next, we checked out the little waterfall and then went over the bridge.

Then we headed over to the windmill...

...and we posed... a lot.

Mom took a whole bunch of pictures, like this one wasn't enough!

I let her know it was time to knock it off!

Enough already, Mom!

She ignored me and said "Oh please, just one more!"

So we did this just to keep her happy...

Guess it worked, cause she walked us around some more.

Lastly, we were surprised to see there were still pretty flowers

blooming in the garden... but its mid-December!

Maybe I should tell them to knock it off... it's time fur some snow!!!

Monday's View from the Moo: Telling Tails

Good Moo-rning everypup! It's Monday, and that means its time fur the View from the Moo.

Today, I just want to clear something up...

Mom puts lots of pictures on our blog of us doing bitey-face and Siberian Smack-down, lots of videos of me wrestling Jack to the ground, dragging him around, chewing on him and so forth.... somepups might get the wrong idea.

So I'll let my tail do the talkin....

I wouldn't trust anypup with my tail. I really do love my brofur.

We spend just as much time snuggling as we do playing.

I admit, I get pretty excited sometimes when I've got a really good grip on him, but I wouldn't ever want to hurt him (at least not really badly) and he lets me get away with pretty much everything. I think its cause he grew up with a bunch of sisfurs who trained him early on that girls rule.

All in all, Jack is a really good sport, a genuinely nice guy,

and a really really good brofur.

Sunday surprise!

Ha-roo! Have woo visited Miss Kylie for her 4th Annual 25 Days of Christmas yet? Its fun, and she's raising funds for rescues...

But seriously...

we had a nice surprise in our email this morning-- - we are the winners of the first weekly drawing! Yup, Miss Kylie picked our name out of the Magic Stocking! This means that a rescue of our choice gets a nice collar gift pack from Cody's Creations.

We've selected Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue to receive the prize.

Jack walked in their fundraiser hike in memory of Star, we know quite a few TOTTSHR pups here in blogland (especially our furiend Khyra) , and Jack's friend Moon adopted his sisfur Neve from them!

We think its cool too that the prize is from Cody's Creations - that's where mom got Jack's ever so cool Penguin Collar earlier this year. A little tough to see thru all his furs, but here it is:

So, all in all, its been a furry nice day indeed! (And we did get the treats after posing, even though we didn't smile.)

Mom likes to time our walk so we can watch the sun setting over the Bay,

and once in a while its what humans call "eye candy"...

There are already Christmas lights on some houses - mom managed to snap this as we dragged her onto a neighbor's yard so we could check for pee-mail while she tried to take pictures....

Looks like more "eye candy", doesn't it?

Here is the canine version of "eye candy"... its us, "eyeing our candy"...

Mom took us fur a walk on First Beach on Thanksgiving morning. We started with a walk on the Cliff Walk cause there were a couple of huge dobermans running off leash on the beach & mom didn't want to take us there while they were dominating the beach scene.

OK, Mom, looks like the coast is clear now - can we go on the beach?

Woo, look! the seagulls are snacking on crabs and seasnails for their Thanksgiving dinner!

We're not all that keen on getting wet, but a wave snuck up on us from behind!

of course Moo wasn't really off leash.)

Two nice ladies stopped to talk & admire us & get kissies.

They kindly took a pic of Mom with us -

Today is the "official" start of Mom's new venture:

PAWS Painter

It's a shop on Etsy where she'll feature artwork with

animals and offer custom pet portraits.

Just for my Monday Moo blog,

Mom did a photo with all four ornaments of us,

her Cyber-sibes pack,

outside hanging on our little Blue Spruce:

I'm pretty sure anyone who's followed us for any length of time

will recognize Star, Sherman, Jack, & me.

In case you don't, we're identified the backsides:

They're really sparkly up close, there's iridescent glitter on top of that "snow".

Its too bad it isn't real snow, but I guess that wouldn't be too good for them.

They do have a sealer on them, but they're really for indoors.

There's 6 more smaller husky ornaments in the shop.

She'll add some paper & canvas pet portraits (as soon as she gets the photos done).

She'll also offer custom photoshop collages...

like the ones you see here on our blog.

They're great for things like cards and websites & stuff.

According to a study by heart specialists at the University of Maryland, people with heart disease were 40% less likely to laugh in a variety of situations compared to people of the same age without heart disease.
Laughter has been found to benefit the way blood flows around the body, reducing the likelihood of heart disease. The research said that 15 minutes of laughter a day is as important for your heart as 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week!

8. Laughter lowers your blood pressure

People who laugh a lot on a regular basis have lower blood pressure than the average person. When people have a good laugh, the blood pressure increases at first, but then it decreases to levels below normal.
Breathing then becomes deeper and this helps to send oxygen-rich blood and nutrients throughout the body.

9. Laughter improves your breathing

Laughter empties your lungs of more air than it takes in resulting in a cleansing effect - similar to deep breathing. This is especially helpful for people who are suffering from respiratory ailments, such as asthma.

10. Laughter helps you lose weight

Burning off calories by laughing might not sound as if it has much use, but a hearty chuckle raises the heart rate and speeds up the metabolism.
If you're dieting, think about adding laughter to your exercise regime. A good sitcom might easily keep you laughing for 20 minutes or more.

Cool Hat Challenge

Our furiends Zim and Rusty threw down the hat this morning. They posed with their human's cool Tilley hats, and tossed out a challenge to show off your human's hats.

Against our will we are pawticipating, sort of.* Our pawrents are both "hat people", so there are plenty of hats to try out. Admittedly, we don't look near as cool as Zim or Rusty, but hey, it was worth the treats! Here is the best of the photos.

Let's hear it: "Awwwwww!"

Isn't that adorable? Its a husky vase she bought at the Siberian Nationals last week. She "just had to have it", cause its by the same artist who designed her other vase, see how sweet they look side by side?
Mom said it reminds her of Star, not only cause it looks like her, but cause she was such an itty bitty thing when they brought her home that their two cats looked like giants next to her!

It was the start of Star's life-long love affair with cats. We hope she's made a few angel kitty friends to play with over the Bridge!

Siberian + Obedience in the same sentence!

Ha-roo everyone!

We hope woo had a fun Halloween (if woo celebrate that in your part of the world). We did! Jack greeted every kid at the door, and got many many many pets! Moo joined him occasionally, not wanting to miss out on the attention. The best comment we got was from a little 5 year old girl who, after insisting she pet both of them, said "I really like your wolves". Awww, isn't that precious? Mom's pumpkin turned out nicely. we of course snoopervised its carving and Jack ate most of the carved out parts.

So today we're going to explore a phenomenon: Siberian Husky Obedience Trials at the Nationals! Yup, there are Siberians who have made agreements to "obey". Who knew? We're sure there must be some spectacular treats involved. We wanna see the contract. Ha-roo roo roo!

When mom arrived there were Siberians sitting unattended for up to 5 minutes at a time. Not doing anything, just sitting waiting for their owners to return to the ring to "release" them. Mom said she was stunned and it gave her hope.. Hope for what? A couple weeks ago dad turned to her and said "Have you noticed that Moo doesn't do anything we ask her?" (Moo says "That's my story & I'm stickin to it".) Then there were group trials. FYI: the fluffy fellow closest to us was the winner in these trials.

Later in the afternoon were "Rally team" trials. This is a group of Siberians and handlers that do synchronized movements. Mom sat next to a lady who does rally trials, so she got the scoop first hand. Here they are all ready for action: The guy in the cap is the "team leader" and calls out the commands as they are given to him by the judge.
They go around the ring, changing directions & pausing to sit & stuff. Here they are doing "weave poles" using peeps for poles:
This next task was interesting. All the dogs sit at one end opposite their handler. One by one they are called to walk across the ring and do a down stay on command while the others cross.
Last pup stopped a bit short, but mom was impressed.
Lastly, they are all told to "stay" and are allowed to do whatever they want as long as they don't get up. This part of the trial we understand! The pup that flopped over & snoozed got a big chuckle from the crowd!
After that, mom walked around & shopped. Our yogurt bones came from the Siberian Health Foundation booth behind this handsome guy, Yuri. Mom talked to his mom for quite a while. Yuri reminded her of Jack's best friend Moon, remember him?
Mom bought a few things (we'll post them later this week). Bus she says that in the next picture shows her with what she really wanted & she was ready to head home, ha-roo roo! (Its that adorable Moo-cousin Falcon again!)

Too bad she didn't bring him home, he would have been a lot of fun to play with! Ha-woo, we'll get to meet him next time we stay at Moo's Mom's B&B up north of here.

A day at the Nationals

Mom put together some of the pictures she took to show us what a day at the Nationals is like. Since Moo & I were showdogs in our younger years, we'll walk woo thru a day at a show....

There's lots of "waiting" involved. Just chillin' in your own cozy kennel. some pups are snooze, some pups watch, and some bark & howl....a lot! Mom said when she got there, there was a group howl that were really cool - like a Siberian Symphony!

And of course, potty breaks.... Lots of potty breaks....

Then there's the grooming. All that bathing, blow-drying, brushing, & primping, cause a show dog's gotta look their best!

At last, your group is called and you enter the ring with your handler...

The most fun part is when you get to run around in the ring, head held high, struttin' your stuff! (Mom's pic was fuzzy, so she jazzed it up to capture the feeling)

You look sharp while the others do their runs, cause everyone's looking at YOU!

Do woo know why show dogs look so alert? The secret is that the handler doles out tasty little treats for good behavior! ("Baiting" the dog)

After woo leave the ring, there are kisses from mom for being such a good boy...

....and more tasty little treats.

...and you go back to your kennel for a snooze.

Well, that's pretty much how mom's day went. There's plenty of other activities that go on, too. Mom said it was pretty exciting to see her first dog show. We gave her a good sniffing - she must have pet a lot of dogs.

We'll post pictures of some of the obedience trials tomorrow.

Today there is a sled race at the Nationals - they'll put that snow to good use! With the bad weather, we are keeping our paws crossed everyone leaving the Nationals will have safe drives home.

PUPPY DAY! (also for Friday)

Woo! Mom is too busy today to get all the new pics up, but we promise to make her get it done asap! Just enjoy these puppies for another day- woo!

Mom went to the Siberian Husky Club Nationals in Fitchburg, MA yesterday. She saw hundreds of gorgeous huskies! Watched obedience trials (yes, some huskies do obey), and the Puppy Sweepstakes judging, and the Veterans and Seniors, too. There was a Rescue parade, (both adoptable & adopted rescues), and many vendors with all kinds of Siberian goodies.

She met up with Maverick's Lisa (who is really really not mean at all!), her mom Cecile, & all their beawootiful Polargold Huskies. She took lots of pics, which we'll post over the next couple days. We'll start today with:

PUPPY DAY!

Who doesn't love puppies?

Here's a litte one we've all been following on fb:

ANNA! (She had just woken up from napping with her moose).

She was happy to come out & spend some love-bug time in Lisa's arms.

She's not only cute as a button, she's feisty, too....

what a perfect little Siberian!

Also present was her buddy, Monty.

What a love this guy is!

His sweet little face is surrounded by those soft, soft ears,

he won mom over in a heartbeat!

While watching some of the judging from ringside, mom noticed another snuggly puppy and she had to get a picture:

Then something unexpected happened: look who showed up!

It's Johanna, Moo's #1 humom/breeder!

...and big ole' snooter smooches were exchanged.

Johann then told mom that this is little Rhodie, and....surprise!

He's Moo's cousin!

Mom was delighted to meet him. She went back & said "ha-roo" to the other 8 Sibes from Liyaza Siberians, including a few more of Moo's relatives.

Later in the afternoon, this handsome little pup arrived-

his name is Falcon. He is Rhodie's big brother....

And another surprise - there's 3 brothers! mom's thinker doesn't retain info for too long anymore, she forgot brother #3's name, but he's on the left, then Falcon, then Rhodie. The girls are Katie and--?oops, there goes the poor memory again, but I thinks she's Lisa(?), and Johanna.

They sure got lots & lots of attention from everyone! Like we said, who doesn't love puppies?

Jack asked if he could use my post to alert everyone about a potentially poisonous problem facing the penguins in New Zealand affected by the recent oil spill. There's a rather unusual rescue effort taking place! Take it away, Jack!

Thanks Moo. Here's the deal: New Zealand's penguins are being rounded up & washed to remove most of the deadly oil, but not all can be washed out. Some wonderful penguin-loving peeps from around the world are knitting them little Penguin sweaters to put on them to prevent them from preening & ingesting bits of oil still in their feathers. How cool is that?

The pengies are released only after they are fully oil-free and have built their strength back up by exercising in a pool. Then the sweaters are used for more incoming penguins, poor things!

A lady who owns a wool shop came up with the plan and I say "Four paws up!" A-roos to yous!

I think I'll offer my services to the rescue team in New Zealand, after all, I'm an expert Pengie-herder! (click to see me demo my mad herding skills.) I expect they can use a few more helping paws! Thanks, Moo - now back to woo!

It was warm and windy last night.

Mom brought her coffee out to the deck & we entertained her.

Good Moo-rning everyone!

This week's View from the Moo is brought to woo from behind bars!

Yup, last week when we showed off the new hallway, some pup asked why we would need the gate. Voila! A reason presented itself this week. The furnace guy came to check the furnace and had to carry stuff in & out of the house, and mom said "You two, out!" This was as far "in" as we were allowed. We had a good view of him going in & out, he had some cool stuff!

OK Jack, enough snoopervising, lets break outta this joint!

We snuck out the back while no one was looking....

Jack high-tailed it across the yard....

...he streaked thru the hidey-hole and zoomed behind the bushes

He zipped out and circled around back towards the deck....

(while I casually inspected the fence line)

... and then casually inspected the bush line....

...and we ended up with a rousing game of smack-down on the deck followed by more Jack-zoomies!

Ha-woo, we posted a while ago about our peeps remodeling the entry hall, and now its done-done! Since the hallway is where most of our stuff is kept, we thought we'd show woo around-

Looking towards the new front door:

a guard-gate so we don't escape when the doors have to be open,

Now, about that bench...

its a good place for taking off boots & setting packages down...

but it also hold a secret stash....

....all our stuff! Leashes, harnesses, tie-outs, poop bags, dog bowls all furry neatly tucked away in the drawers & cubbies. The new bins on either side hold our bags of food* and paw-drying towels & a few extra rugs to put down when its muddy. Mom stashes her mud-boots under there in the winter, too.

Hey, mom... we saw the food bins opened...

does that mean we get early dinner?

No??? Oh well, I guess we can go outside & play bitey-face chase till its dinnertime!

*Its best to keep pet food in the bag it comes in, rather than dumping it into a storage bin. The bags are treated to keep the food from going rancid. She found this out talking to a pet food manufacturer- sharing it cause many people don't realize that its important to keep the food in the original bag.

Wed Woos: A Spidey Story

An itsy bitsy spider lives in the cellar. We'd never seen her, but we call her "Henrietta" and she's very good at catching bugs. But mom got quite a shock yesterday - she went down to do laundry & noticed a very BIG spider hanging there! She thought - wow, so that's what she looks like!

Then she noticed a much smaller spider approaching .....

And a closer look revealed that the very BIG spider was in fact, Henrietta's dinner! Woozers!
Mom checked in on her a couple hours later & Henrietta had pulled that big ole' spider up to the top of the storage bin - a good 15" straight up! That thing was 4x her size! I wonder if she's a "Working Class" spider? Go, Henrietta!

Mom says she can stay in the basement & catch bugs as long as she stays right there on the storage bin. Where we can see her. Don't want no spidey-surprises!

I love to play with my dad! Every night when he comes home from work, I invite him to play. Mom caught a fraction of us being silly, although she missed my Moo-spins.... which means she'll just have to keep trying to capture me at my best, since I don't do "spins" on command, ha-roo roo roo! But I hope you enjoy seeing me say "hello" to my daddy-o!

I want to remind everyone that we're doing "Show us your Treat Jar" again this year. The best part is that it reminds us all to take a box of treats to our local shelter - because :

Ha-woo furkids of all kinds! Hey, its almost time for the humans to do their crazy Trick-or-Treat thing... you know, when all kinds of mini-bipeds come to your house dressed in funny clothes and you pawrents pass out goodies. Last year, we got to thinking about treats and thought it would be fun to post a pictures of our treat jars or bags of favorite treats, (preferably with woo in it too!) It was such a good idea, we're repeating it this year!

We also think its a great time to share a box of treats with furkids who are "in between" families, living in your local shelter. Won't woo please join us?

Now I've overheard some humans talk about how that scene must have been pure Hollywood, cause dogs couldn't catch seagulls like that.....

Woo-hoo!!!! He got one of those silly seagulls right here in our fully fenced in yard! Snatched it right out of the air!** Our peeps sure were impressed! We've caught birds on the wing before - little birds like blue jays, sparrows, black birds, but never one this big!

As usual, Jack was not allowed to keep his prize and since "he's such a good boy" he didn't even put up a fuss when the peeps took his gull away. If it were my catch, I'd have stashed it way in back of the bushes & snacked on it later, but... no one asked me).

I'm keeping this picture handy, just in case I hear any more humans who question the hunting skills of Siberians!

Good Moorning everyone,
This week's View from the Moo brought to woo from Gen. Prescott's "Headquarters" ...

Hmmmm, which way should we go first?

Lets sniff by the building.... its called Gen. Prescott's Headquarters, but actually he was a British General imprisoned here by the Colonists during the Revolutionary War.

Woo- what a good idea - instead of gravel, they're using quahog shells - how furry colonial of them! (For non-NewEnglanders, a quahog is a big clam. Lots of competition between restaurants for the best stuffed quahogs! )

Pretty red bush in the old fashioned herb garden!

We stopped by to woo at the quackers.... they did not, however wish to swim over and play.

Then we walked over to the other side of the park and checked out this cool garden...Everything was so pretty - mom liked the hand-built trellises a lot...
This makes for a nice view of the back of the windmill.
Mom took lots of pictures of us, but mostly of our backs. We were't too cooperative, but finally, we relented and gave her our smiley faces... I mean, she did spend all afternoon with us!

Pengie Passion or "Groovin on a Sunday Afternoon"

Yesterday I got to catch up with my old furiend Pengie. I haven't seen Pengie in a furry long time! He doesn't come out to play much since Moo joined our family. (Probably has something to do with her EATING one of my oldest, most treasured Pengie toys the first week she was here.) --
Woo might want to go to the end of the post & start the music now! It'll give my pictures just the right atmosphere!

Pengie & I had a long talk, there was lots of news to catch up on!

We spent the afternoon just groovin' in the sunshine.

Doesn't get much better than this!

Here's my Sunday suggestion: Pick up that phone, or walk down the street & take a few minutes to groove with an old furiend on a Sunday afternoon!

Sat: Always & Forever Our Star

Two years ago today, our beautiful Star made her way across the Rainbow Bridge. Our hearts still hurt from losing her, but we're truly grateful for the 12 1/2 years we shared as a family.

We smile and laugh over memories of her escapades- from her arrival as a 5-week old puppy who was 1/3rd the size of the two cats in our home, to her self-appointed role as Queen of the Dog park, inspecting every inch of ground and dispensing Husky justice to unruly pups (both human and canine).

In quiet moments, I believe she still stops by to look in on us. There's a sense of her presence in the room, just out of my range of vision, I can feel her watching me. I love those moments. Can't wait till I see her again.

I make donations to Siberian Rescues on anniversaries, but this year's will be very special. There's a very brave and deserving boy who is in need of a Service Dog. His name is Alex Wales and his family is trying to raise $6500 in the next month. We're sending a donation in Star's name. (I hope you'll take a moment to "meet" him.)

I can't think of a better way to honor our girl. She had a special intuition for children and adults in need of canine love, and won many hearts with her gracious, gentle ways.

She is always and forever our beautiful Blue Moon Star. Love never ends...

Friday: Fraternal Twins

Ha-woo, Jack here!

Yesterday I showed woo my little "twin" sis, Khady.

Today, I'm going to show woo something amazing.

After a lot of keen Siberian observation and deductive reasoning

I have discovered that Moo is a fraternal twin.....

to none other than Maude, the Bully Cat!

I know, I know, its shocking, but just look at them side by side and hear me out...

Fraternal twins don't look alike but they really are twins.

They share certain characteristics in their behavior.

Just like Maude, Moo is a bit of a bully.

She likes to intimidate the locals (aka: me, Jack)

Even though the locals are patient, she just won't let up! Look at this bully action!

Just like Maude, she's establishing herself in the local territory, even taking over the most comfy spots by bullying her way in!

The poor locals must run and run and run to escape her tyrannical bullying!

*Whew!*

See what I mean???

They even gloat over their victories the same way.

How much more proof do woo need?

The only part I haven't worked out yet is if Moo is a cat in a Sibe suit, or if Maude a Sibe in a cat suit... (Still looking fur a zipper in that fur somewhere!)

Thursday "Twins"

Ha-woo, Jack here. Thanks fur all your prayers fur our friend Khady. She's still in the pup hospital, but things are looking a bit brighter. Woo can read her mom's pupdate here.

Khady& my mom noticed a striking resemblance between us and joke about our being "twins". ha-rumph! How can I be KhL's "twin"? I don't think I look "girly", I'm a big tough guy sibe! But Mom put together a side-by-side pic. What do woo think?

What! Woo agree??? Well, I was closer to Khady's age when mom took this picture... I'm a lot more buff now!) But really, isn't she a cutie? We are so happy she's feeling a little better each day! We still have paws crossed she can go home soon, with a good long-term plan for her health.

I have another "twins" pic to show woo... (Miss Moo's & her evil twin) but that will wait till tomorrow!

Monday's View from the Moo: Moo Dance

Ha-woo everyone! Can woo believe it's time for Monday's View from the Moo already? woo-hoo, the days are flying by! that's good fur us cause each day is a little cooler & Husky weather is just around the corner!

Mom has such a short memory - she needs a reminder every night that its time fur Jack & I to have our nighty-nite treats, and this is how I remind her!

I've gone to great Moo-lengths to make it entertaining and light-hearted. However, if it doesn't work, I will resort to more intrusive behaviors like clawing mom, or my latest tactic, wooing loudly. I find that one gets quick action because usually dad is asleep by nighty-nite treat time, and he does NOT like to be awaken by my night woos! A doubly-good reason for mom to hop to it and get us those treats!

Woo can try this at home and determine which behavior will train your human into performing the desired result. Once they are properly trained, they're much easier to live with. Good luck!

Mom's friend posted this on her fb page and we instantly thought of our good furiends Juno & Loki and all their adventures with cows in Switzerland. It gave Jack a great idea!!

Hey Moo, maybe Juno & Loki can convince Mr. & Mrs. Wild Dingo to grab some instruments and head out to the nearest herd to play a tune or two? Looks like it mezmerizes the cows - they could sneak up from behind & have themselves some boeuf frais tonight!

Looks like its working... they haven't moved since mom started a jazz CD!

This proves it - jazz calms cows. I think my plan will work!

In the Settlement era, the Mount Hope Lands, comprised of Mount Hope and Poppasquash Necks, belonged to King Philip, Sachem of the Wampanoags. After his death in the “miry swamp” at the foot of Mount Hope in 1676, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts Bay Colony and Rhode Island all claimed this prized territory. Good Moo-rning every pup & peep! I wanted to share some pics from when Mom took us on a walk at a really cool place not far from here. Its called Mt. Hope farm, and woo can walk all around the property right up to the Bay. so, we did!

This was right after Irene, and we weren't too sure about walking under that spooky tree up ahead.

"What do you think, Jack?"

"I think we should go for it, Moo.

We can outrun an old tree if we have to!

We passed by quite a few trees that showed damage, there were lots of them on the ground that had been cut & moved recently too.

We saw this inviting looking scene a bit up the road:

"Care to walk the plank, Jack?"

"Aye-aye, matie! I'll go if woo go"

and so we did...

Woooo! The Bay was way higher than usual (thanks to Irene), and the sea grass tickled our toes when the waves rolled in and swished it around!

"Blech! This grass is too salty to eat!"

Hey Mom, woo should come over here and take a picture looking out at the bay!

Isn't she a beauty? This is the Mt. Hope Bridge, a lovely old suspension bridge from the island to the mainland. (from Portsmouth to Bristol, for woo geography lovers). Years ago it was a toll bridge. Mom's been over it a bunch of times, but she's never seen it from this angle before!

As we left the salty grassy shore, we saw a cove up ahead with a house & a flag and thought that would be a good place to hike to... But that's another day's post. Stay tuned!

View from the Moo: Labor Day Salute

It's Labor Day, a day when American humans celebrate work by taking the day off! (Sounds like typical human logic, doesn't it?) Jack & I think there is no better way to celebrate Labor Day than to show off the fruits of our Dad (and Mom's ) labor!

Here is the new door and lights Dad put on the side entrance... and the lights work! That's because of all the hard work by the electric company workers after hurricane Irene turned off the lights in hundred of thousands of homes here last week. Mom says those workers are her heros! We hope they have a good day today (although we know they have to keep working till all the lights are on everywhere.)

Now that Irene's gone...

we're back to business-as-usual...

Zoomies usually include some fly bys over the deck steps...

watch out! in-comig Siberian!

and wooing about in-coming fly-bys....

Mom fed the birds all through Irene - at every break in the rain, there were hundreds of them flying in for a beak full of seeds! They like to sit on top of the hedges to wait their turn at Mom's fly-in diner!

Here's one of her favorite regular customers, Mr. Cardinal. He was holding fast as the wind whipped the crabapple tree fiercely! He and his Mrs. & their daughter all fly in together to fill up on tasty sunflower seeds. Poor birdies were really drenched during Irene! (They've fluffed back up again now).
